Dr. Lukas Kawerau
I am Dr. Lukas Kawerau. With Empiria Insight I help companies record their data, assess it and make it usable for AI. My background combines a doctorate in data science with experience in product development and practical AI implementation.
My focus is German small and mid-sized companies. Their everyday work produces data that documents specialist knowledge and practical decisions. I support the preparation and use of those holdings for internal applications, in-house model training and fine-tuning. When external licensing makes sense, I also help look for suitable buyers.
You work with me directly. I connect the specialist context of your company with the technical implementation: from assessing the data, through a pilot, to integration. Background
Doctorate in data science
Doctorate at the Graduate School of Decision Sciences at the University of Konstanz (Excellence Initiative). Research on big-data engineering and machine-learning methods for analysing large volumes of data — including Python/Spark pipelines for 10 TB of web-crawl data.
Product development and SaaS
Led a product team for a compliance SaaS product in GeoTech. Revenue from zero to seven figures within a few months of launch. Responsible for product strategy, pricing and go-to-market. After the team was reduced: a full-stack rebuild in 8 weeks with AI-assisted development.
Head of IT, documenta fifteen
Led the IT department for one of the world’s largest exhibitions of contemporary art — 100 days, 32 venues, 200 staff. Responsible for infrastructure, cybersecurity and a six-figure procurement budget.
Teaching AI in practice
Founder of a YouTube channel and a course platform on AI-assisted ways of working. More than 2,000 customers and 25,000 hours of watch time. Experience in making complex AI topics understandable and usable for people who are not technical.
Technical depth
Python, SQL, machine learning, NLP, large language models, agentic engineering. I do not recommend anything I have not built or used myself. Current work: AI agents as guided team members in the development process.

Dr. rer. pol. — University of Konstanz (political science / data science). M.A. in politics and public administration. Studies in business informatics. German (native), English (C2).
